Local Service Updates

Advice for supplying medicine under a PGD through remote consultations – SPS

Cheshire West & Chester

  • EHC Consultations
EHC consultations can now be conducted remotely (either telephone or video) and this is the preferred method of communication for this patient group. If medication is to be supplied (and the patient is self-isolating) this can be collected by a representative or delivered. Please ensure you label any medication you are supplying and record your consultations on PharmOutcomes.  The letters are available here: [COVID] CHAMPS EHC PGD Letter, [COVID] EHC Letter CW&C
  • Supervised Consumption

WPD are reviewing patients individually to ensure continuity of care, they will be contacting pharmacies individually to discuss any changes to observed consumption or collections.

Cheshire East

  • Supervised Consumption

CGL are moving to 2 week supply as previously advised. They are working with the supply chain to reassure themselves this can cope. These will be staggered with at least 2 days notice given to help planning.   100% payment of supervised consumption fees will be made to contractors, despite the reduction in observation. This fee will be based upon February 2020 figures and will continue unchanged from March 2020 onwards until the normal supervised consultation service is resumed.

Warrington

  • Supervised Consumption
After discussions with CGL, to reduce pressures on community pharmacy – individual patients will be reviewed and where appropriate prescriptions will be amended to unobserved, fortnightly collections. This will also support in reducing the likelihood of infection by reducing the number of points of contact. CGL will be contacting you individually to discuss this, allowing you to adjust stock levels accordingly. Where a patient is requested to remain on observed consumption this is because there is a significant risk to the patient and/or family. In that instance please consider how you can continue to support patients and the drug service team.Warrington Council have also agreed that for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic there will be an amendment to the service specification allowing supervised consumption to be observed by any member of the team and that observation does not need to occur in the consultation room. Please consider how privacy can be maintained, but it is acknowledged that as business continuity measures are enacted this will become increasingly difficult. These changes are to support pharmacies to continue to provide vital medication and care. A letter has been sent from Warrington Council confirming this: [COVID] SC Letter Warrington
